DOES GOD FORBID SAME-SEX MARRIAGE?
One of the things that are still opposed in religion and in a country is the same-sex marriage rules. They are still contradicting whether same-sex marriage is legal or illegal. Each of them makes his own opinion.
This is not only debated by the state, but also by the Christian church. Some countries have agreed to same-sex marriage, some other countries do not. The reason used to validate same-sex marriage is human rights. Unlike the church, the church does not only refer to human rights as an excuse to legitimize same-sex marriage, but also quotes the Word of God from the Bible. Now, what exactly is God's view of same-sex marriage? To find out about this, we should understand the Bible by not speculating, but really understand the text and relationships between texts, so we do not read the verse individually.
There are several verses and passages in the offending Bible that even discuss how God views same-sex marriage! However, the main thing you should know is, this article discusses how God views the Bible about same-sex marriage! Not only that, before you read, convince yourself if you are a person who believes in God not someone who rejects God. Why did I say that? Because it will be difficult to give understanding to people who reject God or the Bible, if what we are talking about is the Word of God in the Bible.
Well, we will look at starting from the biblical part that touched on and discussed same-sex marriage. There are several parts of the Bible that we will pay attention to, namely:
1. According to the New Testament Book
I will describe what the New Testament books say about same-sex marriage. Our section The new covenants we study are the Epistles of the Apostle Paul, in Paul's letters, 1 Corinthians 6: 9 and 1 Timothy 1: 9-11, we see a typical word used by the Apostle Paul, "pemburit," in Indonesia' word. NIV used, "men who have sex with men (1 Cor. 6:9), or homosexsuality (1 Tim. 1:9-11)." The word "pemburit" comes from the Greek word arsenokoites, which means: One who lies with a male as with female, sodomite, homosexual. This is a word used only by the Bible. That is, pemburit is a person or man who has intercourse with fellow men as is the sexual intercourse committed by men and women. They are also called people who do sodomy or homosexuality. The Word of God clearly says that those who are called the curators, will not share in the kingdom of God. The Apostle Paul also wrote that this act was a sin so that he would not inherit the kingdom of God. Pemburit is the same sin as other sins, namely: Obscene, idolatrous, adulterous, transvestite, thief, miser, drunkard, slanderer and deceiver (1 Cor 6: 9-10). In this verse clearly mentioned pemburit is sin and parallel to other sins. In the letter of Timothy, it is also stated that pemburit is a sin that is equated with other sins, namely: the ungodly, the despotic, the wicked and sinners, the worldly and the unbelievers, the murderer of the father and murderer of the mother, murderers in general, perverts and murders, kidnappers, liars, people to eat oaths (1Tim 1: 9-10). This text wants to declare the usefulness of the law for sinners. So clearly the Word of God states that the messenger is sin, and everyone who does it will not get a share in the kingdom of God.
What about other books? Let's look at the book of Romans. Romans 1: 24-27 says that having sex with a kind is disgusting to God (Romans 1: 24-27). People who are homosexual are caused by other sins previously committed, so God gives them to their shameful and unnatural desires and passions. Homosexuality is impurity.
2. According to the Old Testament Book
We have seen how God views similar copulations in the New Testament. In the next section, we will see how God views same-sex intercourse based on the oldest book, the Old Testament.
a. According to the Book of Leviticus
You must not sleep with men having sex with women, because that is an abomination. (Leviticus 18:22). According to this command same-sex intercourse is an abomination to God. Not only that, in the next verse it is said that God dispels other nations because they do so (Leviticus 18:24). Therefore, intercourse with same-sex is an abomination to God.
God's dislike of same-sex intercourse is not only written in chapter 18, in chapter 20 it also states that, "if a man sleeps with a man in sexual intercourse with a woman, so they commit an abomination, they must be put to death and their blood overwritten on their own (Leviticus 20:13). "This verse is a very strict part of showing God's hatred of same-sex intercourse. This verse contains the penalty that must be given to them, that is to be put to death and their blood is struck upon themselves.
If we remember the book of Leviticus is one of the books of the Pentateuch which specifically contains the commandments the Lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai to deliver to the Israelites (Leviticus 27:34). Thus, we can clearly understand if God himself ordered not to have sex with same sex. For God, this is an abomination and an appropriate punishment is a death sentence. So we can understand that God does not agree that it can even be said that God hates the same sex.
b. According to the Book of Genesis
In this section, we will also see how the oldest book of the Old Testament, Genesis, describes God's view of homosexuality. The part of the Old Testament book that we want to see is the events of 19: 1-29, namely the events of Sodom and Gomorrah. Let's see, why does God punish Sodom and Gomorrah? Based on this passage, the problem is in verses 4-5, namely, the people of Sodom and Gomorrah want to use angels sent by God to satisfy their lust. Translation LAI uses the word, "wear" while in the original language that is Hebrew, the word used is, ידע (yada) which means to know, but the true meaning of this word is not only knowing but knowing knowing, knowing what is meant is knowing the whole, both outside and inside, in the sense that it is actually having sex. Well, the word for "sodom people" who came to Lot's house was explained to have male sex (masculin), and the angels who came to Lot's house were also male (masculin). Thus we can understand if the people of Sodom wanted Lot's guests, the angels to have sex with them. The intercourse they want to do is same-sex intercourse. This is increasingly clear where Lot also offers so that they prefer their daughters who are virgins and women, because if they do same-sex intercourse, it is a crime for God (verses 7-8).
Their crimes are not just in this text, before God had heard many screams and complains about Sodom and Gomorrah because of their heavy sin (Gen. 18:20). Therefore God sent his angels to Sodom and Gomorrah to see, were they really heavy in their sins? When God saw and the two angels (note: two people were enough to be witnesses) felt for themselves that it was true, the people of Sodom and Gomorrah were very sinful, moreover they liked same-sex intercourse, so God confidently made the decision to punish them. The way God punishes them is by bringing down the rain of sulfur and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah from the sky (verse 24). Not only that, God also overturns the cities, all the inhabitants and plants that are there (verse 25). Apparently also, the sentence was very heavy because when Abraham looked at the city of Sodom and Gomorrah, he saw smoke from the earth soaring upward as smoke from the smelting kitchen (verse 28). From this, we understand that God is very angry with same-sex intercourse.
3. How Do We Respond to Same-Sex Marriage?
So how should we respond to same-sex marriage? First, if we are God-fearing people and people who love God, then we must be disgusted with same-sex marriage or same-sex intercourse. We must refuse. The Bible which is the Word of God clearly rejects and will punish those who commit same-sex marriage and same-sex intercourse.
Second, what about human rights issues?
In this case, people often use human rights. For them the practice of same-sex marriage or LGBT is part of human rights. Human rights for them is freedom as freely as possible in exercising rights without regard to the higher rules of the Word of God.
When it is related to human rights, the real human rights are back to God's rules, because God gives that right. So when that right is a gift, people cannot arbitrarily use it and certainly all the rights given must be used like God wants. We know that God wants us not to do marriages or same-sex intercourse, so do this. All rights must also be used with full responsibility and fear of God who gives that right.
Fourth, so if someone has the tendency to like and love same-sex, what needs to be done? try to check again, what causes you to like same-sex intercourse? Is it because of having a problem with the opposite sex? Is it because of having experienced violence, sexual abuse or not being accepted in a different type of person? If it's true, there's no reason for you to love same-sex just because they care more about you and they make you more comfortable. Try to return to normal life, confess if you sin and are guilty, confess to God if you feel hurt and experience hurt to people of different kinds, and ask for help from the Holy Spirit so you can forgive and return to normal life. If you consider being born with a homosexual tendency, then there is no excuse to justify homosexuality. Remember, homosexuals are the same as the tendency to make other sins. So this is not a pretext for sinning. Hard? Indeed, yes, especially for those who have been trapped. That is life, must fight against sin and all things that are repulsive to God. Remember in the struggle against sin, God will not leave us (John 14: 16-17, 26).
Fifth, so what is the right marriage?
True and true marriage is a different type of marriage, that is, men and women, naturally men and women are not the result of genital surgery. The problem of the couple has actually been explained by the Word of God firmly during the Creation of the world and humans. In the first book, Genesis, this is clearly explained. If it is considered in the book that wrote the creation story that is the incident, in the beginning, God created Adam. Adam was the first man God created. Based on Hebrew grammar, Adam is male. In the following verse, Adam was given the opportunity to name another creation of God. When he named the other creation, he did not find a helper who was worth it (Gen. 2: 20-21). Therefore, God made the man fall asleep and took one of his ribs and from the ribs, God built a woman for him because God took him from a man (verse 23).
So, from the beginning of creation, God has compared men with women (the woman in question is Eve). God did not create men in pairs with men or Adam with other Adam. He built a helper who was worthy of being a woman. There are three important things that must be considered in this section, namely: First, God builds from the ribs of Adam a Woman. Second, the woman is the helper and third, the woman is equal to Adam. Look firmly at the first human sex and the first woman, namely masculine and feminine. Not masculine and masculine or feminine and feminine. So, the Word of God firmly rejects homosexual couples. God not only forbids, but also rejects, punishes and is angry with same-sex marriage.
That is the explanation from me, it would be useful.
